Lynton & Lynmouth

You are here:

England’s own, very special, “Little Switzerland”

The Devon villages of Lynton & Lynton can be found nestled amongst the rugged cliffs of the North Devon coast, surrounded by Exmoor’s vast moorlands, leafy wooded valleys, rolling hills and a remarkably dramatic coastline.

Picturesque Lynmouth sits proudly at the mouth of the East Lyn River and offers a breezy and romantic escape from modern living. Its rows of charming fishing cottages, shops, pubs and cafés cluster around the pretty harbour of gently bobbing boats. It was made famous because of the tragic Lynmouth Flood that violently swept most of the village away one fateful night in 1952.

Lynton perches high above Lynmouth cleaving majestically to Hollerday Hill overlooking the Bristol Channel. It is a vibrant Victorian town retaining a charming mix of times present and past. Lynton showcases a wonderful selection of shops, cafes and pubs, along with supermarkets, delicatessens, post office and even its very own cinema.

Both Lynton & Lynmouth boast a selection of great shops, excellent places to eat and outstanding places to stay, for the whole family. Visitors can travel effortlessly between Lynton & Lynmouth the traditional way, walking or driving, or take the incredible Cliff Railway.

The Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Railway is the highest, steepest, totally water-powered funicular railway in the world. It has to be one of the main highlights of any trip to the North Devon coast!
